| Why the hell are they bringing out 3d maps, when tomtom cant even keep their maps up to date. TomTom need to walk before they can run. I've previously bought 2 maps from tomtom, both of them did not contain any updates in my area. Iam not going to download the new map as it probably still wont have been updated. I think tomtom should tell us what has been updated before we buy or is it just another money making scam. Tomtom get your fingers out and sort these problems out, and listen to what your customers want. |

TomTom have nothing to do with map production.. they buy the data from Tele Atlas ! I agree about announcing the details in the updates though. |

| I've seen some demo clips of a satnav using the 3d maps on youtube. I'm sorry to say that I think that I would find it way too distracting. When there is a turn that goes behind a building etc, it becomes ghost-like. If you are only briefly glancing at the screen, you could easily mistake this for a turn before the building. I think that the existing "3d" view on satnavs is far clearer, and the majority of the buildings on the new one obviously use a standard texture for "shop" etc mapped onto a shape, therefore the 3d view does not acurately represent what you are seeing anyway. The other disadvantage is that in many towns and cities, buildings change their uses all of the time. Perhaps a better 3d view would use something like google earth where the roads can be overlayed onto a satellite picture. The "bird's eye 3d view" that we already use is far better than one with a "driver's perspective" which doesn't let you see that far ahead. What I would prefer to see, is road signs and graphics showing you exactly which lane you should be in, like those on the Navigon satnavs. |
